A good-quality RC submarine can have as many as four or six, while toy submarines usually only have one or two. The same applies to submarines, as it will be easier to control if it has more motors. The number of motors will make operation easierĪ car with four wheels is easier to drive than a vehicle with three. A good-quality RC submarine will have a run time of 15-20 minutes while top-quality gadgets can stay underwater for up to an hour. Complex submarines make use of robust rechargeable battery packs, while others use simple store-bought batteries. The range of a submarine is one thing, but the batteries also play a vital part in how long the gadget can be operated. The controller also needs to be comfortable when held, as there is nothing worse than wanting to enjoy a hobby but the tools are cumbersome. High-end RC submarines will be as thin or flat as possible, while kids’ submarines might have more of a whimsical design. For maximum enjoyment, the submarine needs to be built in a hydrodynamic way to reduce drag. The power of a submarine is in the design and how water flows over the body. What to look for in a quality RC submarine Streamlined design with comfortable controller The range will depend on complexity, as kids’ toys can usually go about 20 feet before losing connection. In the case of submarines, the device might lose the ability to maintain a certain depth, and sink to the bottom. If you stray too far from the controller, you will lose communication and the device will stop. Similar to remote-controlled boats and ships, submarines have a limited range. A good rule of thumb is the more complex a submarine is, the more expensive it will be. There is a variety of RC submarines available, ranging from simple kids’ toys to accurate replicas of real-world machines. They can be expensiveĪs with any hobby, you must set yourself a budget and try your best to stick to it. Static RC submarines are more expensive and use complex controls to remain submerged through compressed gas or a pump. Dynamic remote control submarines are generally more affordable and can stay afloat with simple buoyancy controls. Largely dependent on the type of submarine you get, there are two different control methods. ![]() What to know before you buy an RC submarine There are different control methods So, if you are not into battleships or aircraft with cameras, your best bet will be the FIFISH V6 Remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV). As the name implies, it is an underwater craft that you control through wireless technology. I’m being as honest as possible about the sub’s condition, so if there’s any questions, please contact me.Remote control toys can be hugely entertaining. A new replacement servo will be included. The radio is not included, as it also operates another model I picked up at the estate sale. There’s no physical damage anywhere on the sub, & has a built in camera also. The battery is located externally in a waterproof box, beneath the sub. It’s around 19.5” long with a diameter of about 4”. The boat is very built with a fiberglass hull with 2 built in “ landing pods “. However the drive ( gearbox with a belt drive ) still works, forward & reverse, the pump still inflates the bag, but the rudder servo does not work anymore. He tells me the O ring probably needs a fresh coat of lube & maybe replacement seals around the 2 push rod fittings. I took it to my hobby dealer who removed the end cap & drained the water. It’s a 6 cell NIMH pack that now only charges to about 6.6 v.Īlso upon removing the WTC, there was a few ounces of water inside. ![]() My last attempt at diving the sub was a little disastrous it would not surface again. She wasn’t home at the time, lol ! It did a couple of laps around the tub, submerged it a few times, & surfaced. I gave the battery a quick charge & tested it out in the wife’s hot tub. I’m told this was last run about 7 years ago. ![]()
